New UADC mailing list

Following the decision at EWU AUDC to rename the tournament the United Asian Debating Championships (UADC) a new mailing list has been set up. If you are interested in joining this list please see below.

From various mailing lists:

Hi all
David Gray (the Exco's Communication Officer) has set-up a google group named 'debateasia' for the Asian debating community with myself and David as the moderators as requested by the Union in Dhaka.

The aim of this google group is to- provide a unified venue for discussing matters pertaining to Asian debating,- provide a clean break from the past to coincide with the newly renamed United Asian Debating Championships, and- help us control spam and other undesirable communication as requested at the Union meeting.

I am unable to mass email an invitation to this yahoogroup.
But you can subscribe to the group
- by visiting http://groups.google.com.au/group/debateasia
- by emailing debateasia+subscribe@googlegroups.com

Anyone can join the group (without approval) or post messages. We understand that it will take some time for all members to migrate to the new group. For the time being, we request everyone with a message to suffer the inconvenience of posting on all three forums - 'AUDC', 'allasiandebate' and the new 'debateasia'.

Also, I strongly encourage everyone with technical questions to tap into the 'wisdom of the crowds' in these groups, and other internet resources.

We hope that the inconvenience caused by this is eventually worth it!

Vikram,
On behalf of the UADC Exco

Australs Accreditation test

From the asiandebating.org

Asiandebating.org have published an accreditation test created by Monash Australs and AIDA that will be used for the upcoming Monash Australs and is proposed to be adopted by council as the official AIDA accreditation test.

The main purpose of the test is to help with the ranking of judges at the upcoming Monash Austral-Asian Debating Championships. However it may also be interesting for those not going to the championships who wish to know more about the format at this championships.

Click here to access the test.

AUDC Adjudication briefing

The Adjudication Briefing from the recent AUDC has been uploaded to the the AUDC yahoo group.

You can access the file here but you may need to sign up as a member of the group to see it.

It is useful both for those in Asia who want to see an official guide to the format and to those outside Asia who are just interested in seeing a differend format of debating.

Reminder - DCA Applicants' commentary due‏

Dear Australasian Debating Community
A reminder that we are still accepting commentary and feedback on the DCA applicants for Australs 2010 in Auckland.

The applicants are:
Christopher Croke
Sharmila Parmanand
Vikram Balasubramanian
Tim Jeffrie
Fiona Prowse
Md. Mizanur Rahman

Please email me (cjsbishop@gmail.com) with positive or negative comment about any one, some, or all of the above candidates.

Comment will be accepted until June 14, 2009.

When providing comment, please make it clear in what capacity you are doing so e.g on behalf of your debating society, a regional organisation, etc.

I would like to emphasise that all feedback about candidates will be treated in the strictest confidence. Only I will be privy to any information sent.

As announced before, we intend to follow previous practice and select an Adjudication Core that reflects the diverse debating cultures of the many countries that make up the Austral-Asian debating community.

We have no fixed views on how many DCAs should be selected, and welcome comment on that issue too.

Kind regards
Christopher Bishop
