University of Limerick IV

The UL IV is on this weekend (23rd & 24th). I'll be there and will post some updates to the blog.

The competition will be in British Parliamentary style and is an Open. If you are interested in taking part Entry fees are €50 per team, €40 per international (non-Irish) team. There is no cost for adjudicators. Crash is available for all international participants. If you're in Ireland you know how to get here, its pretty simple. However if you are travelling from abroad there are a number of options. Easiest of these is to fly directly into Shannon Airport, which is serviced, by Ryanairand Aer Lingus. The other option is to fly into Dublin Airport and then get a train to Limerick, which is approximately a 2.5-hour journey

The CA of the DCUL Intervarsity will be Diarmuid Early. He is currently theAuditor of the UCC Philosophical Society, and was the IndividualWinner of Irish Times Debating Competition

There will be a prize fund of €1,500 for this competition. Prizes will be awarded to the winning and runner up teams of the competition, the winningi ndividual, the top speaker on the tab, the best novice team on the tab and best novice individual on the tab.

Middle Temple IV results

Middle Temple IV Results:
The finalists were Barefoot in Burger King (Doug Cochran and Patrick Rooney), Inner Temple A (Shannon Eastwood and Rob Morris), Danny Riley ig Great A (Matt Sinclair and Danny Riley), and Ed and Toby (Ed McRandal and Toby Eley). The final was won from 2nd Opp by Ed and Toby, with Ed as the best speaker in the final. The top team on the tab was Barefoot in Burger King, and the best speaker on the tab was Patrick Rooney.

The motions were as follows:
R1: THW allocate council housing based on religious quotas
R2: THW prosecute those who purchase conflict diamonds
R3: THW grant automatic equal custody to both parents, irrespective of the child's wishes
R4: THBT the state should provide free life insurance for working parents on low incomes
SF: THW abolish state support and special privileges for civil aviation.
F: THW abolish the International Criminal Court.

Debate Federation "Stolytsya" cordially invites you to the 5th Jubilee Kyiv Spring 2007 International Debate Tournament.

The tournament will take place in Kyiv, Ukraine on May 4 – 6, 2007.

We'll be offering you 4 preliminary rounds of high-quality debating, semifinals and the Grand Final. Breaking the tradition of the past 2 years and returning to the origins of the tournament there willbe closed and semi closed motions. As usual thetournament will be held in British Parliamentaryformat.

Participation fee is 20 US Dollars ($) per debatersand 15 US Dollars ($) per adjudicator. The fee coversaccommodation, meals and break night party.

This conference will bring together 1026 representatives of NGOs/CBOs and numerous number of interested individual participants from all over the world. The conference will be conducted on participatory bases with satellite plenary and simultaneous sessions followed by general and small group discussions.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT: The conference receives financial support from Citi Bank New York and the United Nations Youth Commission. This sponsorship covers the following:

(1) Return airplane travel ticket for selected delegates from their home country to venues of event in Memphis (United States) and Amsterdam (Netherlands).and back to their home country.
(2) Hotel accommodation in Memphis (United States) only for selected delegates.
(3) Medical insurance cover for delegates throughout the entire conference duration.

Global Youth Action Network will not assume responsibility of anyother cost, other than those listed above.
